Far from Home: Stories of Refugee Girls

Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia

Featuring work by: CARE USA multimedia staff, Josh Estey, Nancy Farese, Reagan Hodge

Children make up more than half of the 68.5 million people forcibly displaced worldwide. Girls are particularly vulnerable; discrimination and disadvantage puts them physically, emotionally, and economically at risk, and is magnified in the context of a humanitarian emergency. In honor of International Day of the Girl (Oct 11) CARE invites visitors to experience the world through powerful imagery celebrating the strength of girl refugees who are lifting their voices in the fight to overcome their circumstances through education, safety, financial access, political action, and more.

Founded in 1945 with the creation of the CARE Package®, which helped feed starving Europeans following the devastation of World War II, CARE is a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty. CARE places special focus on working alongside women and girls because, equipped with the proper resources, they have the power to lift whole families and entire communities out of poverty. That’s why women and girls are at the heart of CARE’s community-based efforts to improve education and health, create economic opportunity, respond to emergencies and confront hunger. Last year CARE worked in 93 countries and reached over 63 million people around the world. Learn more at care.org.
