A Race Against Time: Saving Atlanta's Photographic History is an exhibit comprised of six photographic collections, Lane Brothers, Tracy O’Neal, Ernest G. Welch, Tom Coffin, David Lenox and the Atlanta Journal and Constitution Photographic Archives. The exhibit will explore the different types of photography from commercial to amateur and the challenges of preserving them.
These visual treasures document local Atlanta, regional, and national issues from the 1920s through to the end of the 1990s. Special Collections and Archives will explore the complexities and challenges of preserving not only a variety of photographic prints and negatives but also born digital materials from 5 inch floppies to digital tiffs.
Visitors will have a chance to adopt negatives in poor condition and sponsor them for preservation during the exhibit opening and throughout the year online through our virtual exhibit.
The physical exhibit is housed at Georgia State University's Library Special Collections and Archives department from September 23, 2018 - July 1, 2019. Our online exhibit can be found at https://library.gsu.edu/exhibits/
