To Photograph the World, with Baldwin Lee & Mike Smith

The Humid

Featuring work by: Baldwin Lee, Mike Smith

The Humid, in Athens, GA, presents To Photograph the World, a workshop co-taught by the esteemed photographers Baldwin Lee and Mike Smith. Both Lee and Smith have work in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and other major museums, and both are recipients of the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship. Practicing a strain of photography that looks at daily life, Lee and Smith have made great contributions to American photography and the description of the American south. They are brilliant and energetic teachers with differing experiences, perspectives and approaches who, in this rare co-teaching combination, will help students give shape, direction, and clarity to their work.

The workshop begins on Friday evening with an introductory reception. On the following two days Lee and Smith will lead the group through a portfolio review of each student's work and present on the oeuvre of relevant photographers.

Additionally, on Saturday evening Lee and Smith will give artist talks that are open to the wider public (please RSVP, space is limited). Various social gatherings for workshop participants will be planned at downtown Athens bars and restaurants.

The Humid is hosted by Athens, GA photographers Irina Rozovsky and Mark Steinmetz, who will help facilitate the workshop.
